Argonne Modeling Materials Short Course Registration Information

Thank you for registering for the Modeling Materials Short Course that will be held at Argonne National Laboratories during November 18-22, 2013. Welcome!

This document covers the following information about the short course:

  1.  Payment of tuition.  Tuition covers the course fee and course material (including textbooks). Tuition must be paid to secure a place in the course.  The number of places is limited, so early payment is recommended.
  2. Argonne site access information and course location.  All participants must fill in an online Argonne Visitor Registration form ahead of the course to gain access to the Argonne campus where the course will be held.  U.S. citizens must do this 7 days in advance of the course, non-U.S. attendees 14 days in advance.
  3. Travel information to Argonne.
  4. Lodgings.   Accommodations are not included in the tuition.  Special room rates have been made available at nearby hotels.
  5. Course policies including cancellation by registrant and organizers.

To secure a place in the course, you must pay the tuition.  The number of place is limited, so early payment is highly recommended.

ARGONNE SITE ACCESS

All participants in the Modeling Materials short course must fill in an online form ahead of the course:
  • All course participants need to register for access to Argonne (at least 7 days prior for U.S. citizens, 14 days prior for non-U.S. attendees) via: Argonne Visitor Registration. (If requested, use "vanmeert@anl.gov" as the sponsor email address.)
  • The course will be held at Argonne National Laboratory located at Cass Ave and Northgate Rd, Argonne, IL 60439, USA.  A map showing the location is available here.

  • If you are bringing a guest, please contact your host for additional information.
Upon arrival to Argonne National Laboratory, you must stop at the Argonne Visitors Center during normal business hours to pick-up your gate pass.  After hours or weekends proceed to the main gate guard post.

U.S. Citizens Visitors
- must show and official picture ID.

Non-U.S. Citizen Visitors
- must present your original passport, original visa and/or I-94 or I-94W (Departure Record). If the expiration date on the I-94 or I-94W reads D/S (Duration of Status), you must present the supporting immigration documentation (i.e., I-20, DS-2019).  Non-U.S. Visitors arriving at the gate without the appropriate in-status immigration and naturalization service documentation will experience a delay in site access.

TRAVEL

Argonne National Laboratory is about 45 minutes by car from each of the two major Chicago airports, O'Hare and Midway (see map).  Limousine service is available from each airport, and major car rental agencies serve both airports.

To reach Argonne from O'Hare Airport, drive east (toward Chicago) on Interstate 190 to the exit for Interstate 294 south (toward Indiana). Go south on Interstate 294 to the exit for Interstate 55 south (toward St. Louis); then take the southbound Cass Avenue exit (273A) off Interstate 55. Northgate Road, the entrance to the Laboratory's main gate, is on the right. 

From Midway Airport, take Cicero Avenue north to the entrance to Interstate 55 south (toward St. Louis), which will be on your left, then proceed as described above. 

LODGINGS

A block of rooms for the “Materials Modeling Course” has been reserved at a special rate for this meeting at the Aloft of Bolingbrook and the Argonne Guest House, which is located on site at Argonne.

Please make your reservation directly with the hotel of your choice. 

A number of other hotels are located relatively close to Argonne. No special rates have been established for these hotels, and shuttle transportation will not be provided. 

COURSE POLICIES

CANCELLATION POLICY: For cancellations made 4 weeks or more before the course start date, the full registration fee will be refunded (less any money transfer or handling fees associated with the payment). After that date, a cancellation charge of 15% will be deducted. No refunds will be made for cancellations made less than 14 days before the start of the course. Registration is transferrable to participants from the same institute. Substitutions can be made at any time.

 IMPORTANT NOTE: The organizers reserve the right to cancel the course in the event that a minimum number of participants is not reached. The final decision on whether or not the course will take place will be made about 4 weeks before the start date. If the course is cancelled, the full registration fee will be refunded to all participants.
